In a prior video, we revived a spider plant named Lucy. This video shows you how Lucy is doing now and gives some tips on keeping revived spider plants healthy and happy indoors. To have happy and healthy spider plants as houseplants, you want to give them proper lighting and raise the humidity, if necessary. Take a look and see how well Lucy is doing!

Hello and welcome to HealthyHouseplants.com, where we teach you all about gardening in the great indoors. Today’s video is sponsored by our Amazon affiliate link, which you’ll find in the comments section below.
Today, we’re checking in on a spider plant that I revived in a previous video last month. This is Lucy, and as you can see, she’s looking great. The revival took place on September 6, and in the prior video (linked below), she looked a bit bedraggled with many brown leaf tips. Now she’s greener, healthier, and putting out new growth.
Spider plants always remind me of a head of hair—their green “hair” grows in curls, and Lucy’s curls are filling in beautifully. As she grows, she will eventually produce plantlets (“babies”) at the ends of her stems. These baby spider plants can be rooted in soil to create entirely new plants. For now, she’s still young—maybe second or third grade—but thriving.
One important reminder about spider plant care: they need bright indoor light. Bright indirect light works best. If you don’t have a bright window, place your spider plant under full-spectrum grow lighting. Lucy has been receiving both window light and full-spectrum lighting, and she has responded very well.
Spider plants also prefer evenly moist soil. They do not like to dry out completely, but you shouldn’t water too soon either. Lucy was watered yesterday, and her soil still reads very moist on the moisture meter. I will wait to water again until the meter reads around a “4”—approaching dryness but not fully dry.
Spider plants also appreciate humidity. You can increase humidity by creating a humidity tray using gravel or decorative marbles. Fill the tray with water just below the top of the stones, then set the plant on top to allow evaporating moisture to humidify the air around it. Just make sure the leaves don’t get crushed under the pot or they can develop brown tips.
You can also mist the plant once or twice daily to help keep it moist. When Lucy was revived, she was planted with fertilizer. I’ll be adding more Green Gourmet Houseplant Food in two or three weeks once she has settled in and is actively growing. Avoid fertilizing immediately after a revival, as it may stress the plant. Afterward, continue with a regular four- to eight-week feeding routine.
That’s all for Lucy today! We’ll check in again soon. Thanks for stopping by. Please leave any indoor gardening tutorials you’d like to see, and remember to like, comment, subscribe, and share this video.
Spider Plant Care FAQ
How much light does a spider plant need indoors?
Spider plants grow best in bright indirect light. If you lack a bright window, use full-spectrum grow lighting to maintain healthy growth.
How often should I water my spider plant?
Water when the soil approaches dryness but is not completely dry. A moisture meter reading around “4” is ideal before the next watering.
Do spider plants need humidity?
Yes. Spider plants appreciate moderate humidity. You can increase humidity using a humidity tray or by misting once or twice daily.
How do I create a humidity tray?
Fill a shallow tray with gravel or decorative marbles and add water just below the top of the stones. Set the plant on top so evaporation humidifies the air without soaking the roots.
When should I fertilize a revived spider plant?
Wait until the plant shows new growth, then fertilize after two to three weeks. After that, follow a four- to eight-week fertilizing schedule.
Can spider plants be propagated?
Yes. Mature spider plants produce baby plantlets at the ends of long stems. These can be placed in soil to grow into new plants.
