This is my Philodendron Red Congo, and I absolutely love this plant. I really like the large-leaf Philodendrons because they’re easy to grow and make such beautiful eye-catching additions to an indoor garden.
Philodendron Red Congo has gorgeous, large leaves that are naturally shiny, especially when you keep them clean and dust-free. I recommend using a microfiber cloth to gently dust the leaves. I also have a video about how to clean houseplant leaves that I’ll link below.
New leaves are always exciting to see, and the new growth on this Philodendron is especially shiny.
One of the things that makes the Red Congo variety so beautiful is its red foliage. The newer red leaves gradually turn green over time. However, some of the older leaves can retain their red coloration, and the stems also remain red.

Philodendron Red Congo as an Indoor Focal Point
In this video, I wanted to show you what my Philodendron Red Congo looks like in my office and how I use it as a focal point.
Philodendron Red Congo can do well when slightly pot bound, and as you can see, mine is growing in a relatively small pot.
One thing to keep in mind is that these plants can become top-heavy because of their large, substantial leaves. The plant and foliage can become heavy enough that the pot may tip over if it is placed somewhere unstable.
If you keep a Red Congo on a table, shelf, or bookcase, make sure the pot is stable and unlikely to fall. In my office, I use a decorative blue rock to help keep the pot upright.
Growing Philodendron Red Congo Under a Grow Light
My Philodendron Red Congo also has a grow light shining over it along with some of my other plants in the office.
The plant appears to be thriving in this location, and it makes a beautiful focal point in the room.
I love having plants around me when I work and write, so it’s especially enjoyable to see this gorgeous Red Congo Philodendron whenever I come into the office.
