A lot of houseplants are tropical and come from tropical environments. Calatheas are one example of tropical plants that can benefit from additional humidity.
Whenever you can, providing extra humidity can help calatheas and other tropical houseplants. You don’t necessarily have to run a humidifier all day long. Even short periods of about 15 to 20 minutes of increased humidity can be beneficial.
Giving a Calathea a Humidity Boost
I have this Calathea in my kitchen right now, and she’s getting some nice humidity from this small humidifier.

I wanted to show you how happy she looks while getting her humidity bath. It’s almost like she’s going into a sauna, except this is cool mist rather than hot mist.
Providing additional humidity can be particularly helpful for plants that are susceptible to brown leaf tips and brown leaf edges, which is common with calatheas.
If you notice that your tropical houseplants aren’t looking their best, consider increasing the humidity around them.
Using a Small Humidifier for Houseplants
You don’t need a large humidifier to give your houseplants a humidity boost. A small humidifier can work well when positioned close to the plant.
Place the humidifier next to the plant so the moisture reaches the foliage. This provides the plant with some of the humid conditions it would experience in its natural tropical environment.
