Today, we have a spotlight on this gorgeous plant, Crossandra Sundance, botanically known as Crossandra infundibuliformis. Also commonly called firecracker flower, Crossandra is a tropical flowering plant native to India and Sri Lanka.

I love flowering houseplants, and Crossandra is definitely one of them. It’s so exciting to see these spikes of eye-catching orange flowers appear in the indoor garden.
The flowers rise above the foliage on upright stems, and each bloom has overlapping asymmetrical petals. Some people describe the flowers as looking a little like moths, and you can probably see why.
The variety I’m featuring here is Sundance. This compact cultivar generally grows around 12 to 16 inches tall and spreads about the same amount, which makes it a great size for growing indoors.
Sundance can bloom from spring into fall, provided you give it sufficient bright indirect light and the other growing conditions it needs. Those vibrant orange blooms are hard to miss and can really brighten up your indoor garden, as you can see.
But Crossandra is attractive even when it isn’t flowering. The plant has these glossy, textured green leaves that create a lush tropical appearance year-round in your indoor garden.
