A Beautiful Dried Croton Leaf
Welcome to healthyhouseplants.com, where I teach you all about gardening in the great indoors. If you’d like to support my show, check out the description box below for the many ways to do that.
Today, I’m showing you this croton leaf, which I dried, and I just found it. I had actually forgotten that I dried it, and it’s from this plant here.
I do have a playlist on how to dry foliage and flowers from your indoor garden, so I will link that below.
Today, I wanted to show you this leaf. Like I said, I just found it, and I was so excited because it’s so pretty. This is the first time that I have dried a large croton leaf.
You never know what you’re going to get when you dry leaves and flowers from your indoor garden, so it’s really fun. It’s kind of like opening up a present when you go to look at it after you’ve waited the time that you need to wait while it’s drying.
As I mentioned, I do have a long-form series on how to do this. You can go ahead and check that out if you want to try it yourself.
Right now, I am showing you how cool this is and how interesting it is to see the results.
This is perfectly dried. I could actually use it for a fan if I wanted to.
You can see the marks on it, and it’s so interesting to see how the markings change when it dries because it is similar but, in many ways, very different from the original before it was dried.
Now, of course, there are a bunch of different types of leaves on this croton, which is a very large croton. So, it’s hard to say at this point because I didn’t take a before-and-after picture, which probably would have been a really good idea. I’ll remember to do that in the future.
But as you can see, there are quite a few different leaves on here. Some have more of those red tones, while others have more of the yellowy tones.
I’m guessing that the original leaf and the one that was dried probably looked a lot like one of these here, or that one up there, with just the yellow and the green.
Considering that this oneโwell, actually, depending on what light you look at it inโit could be that some of that, especially up top there, could have originally been that pinky-red color.
So, it’s hard to know, like I said, without having done a before-and-after shot, which I’m going to do in the future. And then again, it’s kind of fun to guess as well.
It’s also a really fun thing to do with kids. So, it’s an interesting and enjoyable activity to try in your indoor garden.
And it’s something that also preserves the fruits of your laborโyour beautiful houseplant leaves and foliage.
